First Look at Texas Hold’em

So you are no experienced casino players and you are interested in the game of poker. The best variation of poker you should try first is Texas Hold’em poker. The game is actually very simple once you understand the rules and basic playing strategies, so let us go over some of them to help you get started right away.

Texas Hold’em is played by 9 players plus one house dealer in a table. The round is started with each player being dealt two cards, face down, and making their bets; depending on the limits, you can make different amount of bets or even go all-in right away. There are big blinds and small blinds assigned to two players, and one player gets the chance to be labeled dealer and move last. After each player makes their bets, the chips are gathered together at the center of the table and are now called the pot.

The dealer continues with dealing three cards face up to the center of the table; this is called the flop. If you think betting before the flop is exciting, wait till you see players betting after the three cards are revealed. Once each player makes their bets, the dealer continues with dealing the turn — one card face up right next to the flop. Another betting round and the dealer deal the river — one last card also face up.

With five, face up, cards on the table and two cards on you, you can find the best possible poker hands you can construct. Player with the strongest hand wins the pot. Since the game is played among players, the casino sometimes charge fees — called ‘rake’ — to the amount of money placed as bets.
